Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs), known to pilots as "Centers," are capable of direct communications with IFR air traffic on certain frequencies. Maximum communications coverage is possible through the use of Remote Center Air/Ground (RCAG) sites comprised of both VHF and UHF transmitters and receivers. Remote Communications Outlets (RCO) are remote aviation band radio transceivers, established to extend the communication capabilities of Flight Information Centres (FIC) and Flight Service Stations (FSS).. Pilots can find RCO frequencies in charts or publications such as the chart Supplement or Canada Flight RCO is used to make a radio call to the outlet as if the pilot were.
DISCRETE FREQUENCY- A separate radio frequency for use in direct pilot-controller communications in air traffic control which reduces frequency congestion by controlling the number of aircraft operating on a particular frequency at one time. Discrete frequencies are normally designated for each control sector in en route/terminal ATC facilities. Today, the RCA brand symbolizes American ingenuity worldwide. Its iconic name can be found on flat-panel and 4K televisions, tablets, smartphones, home appliances, and many other extraordinary products. From our biggest public moments to the smaller, more personal ones, RCA has been a part of our lives and will continue to be today, tomorrow and well into the future.

RCAG facilities are sometimes not equipped with emergency frequencies MHz and MHz. As a Technician with the FAA I can tell you that there are several backups in place to prevent any such problems. An RCAG is tone controlled from the tower at a local airport and is located in a place outside of the airport where optimum transmiss.

The primary and secondary RCAG services are normally provisioned with access diversity at the Automation.
Discover the best communication books for both professional and personal communication. Books are available in hardcover, paperback or audiobook format. I really hope it’s ok to ask this here, I’ve all but given up searching online.
I just started monitoring Indianapolis Center on my RTLSDR and have stumbled across a frequency I can actually hear the Center, and not just the aircraft. It sounds like its so close to me and I’m dying to find out where it could be.
It’s the “MERWYN” KZID RCAG, on“Ultra high altitude. There is an RCAG site near me (Gardner, MA, ZBC) that is listed in the database ( - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference Database) as being co-located with a VOR/DME g at the satellite view of the location I don't see the tell tale 4 tower, or even a single tower at the site.

ARTCCs are capable of direct communications with IFR air traffic on certain frequencies. Maximum communications coverage is possible through the use of Remote Center Air/Ground (RCAG) sites comprised of both VHF and UHF transmitters and receivers.
These sites are located throughout the U.S. RCA Communication Systems: There in the beginning, still here today. The field of communications technology rapidly advanced over the course of the previous century and few of the big names of those early days maintained the name recognition and longevity into this new, twenty-first century.
The FAA performed a communication analysis at both 1, and 1, feet AGL and determined that communication in the area is provided by both a Remote Communications Air/Ground facility (RCAG) and a Back Up Emergency Communication (BUEC) facility.REMOTE COMMUNICATIONS AIR/GROUND FACILITY- An unmanned VHF/UHF transmitter/receiver facility which is used to expand ARTCC air/ground communications coverage and to facilitate direct contact between pilots and controllers.
